MEDIA RELEASE: ADVERTISING BAN IS RIDICULOUS AND UNWORKABLE 25 April 2008 Commenting on today’s debate on the Food Products (Marketing to Children) Bill, Progressive Vision, the classical liberal think tank, has said that banning advertising of so-called junk food is ridiculous and unworkable. Mark Littlewood, communications director of Progressive Vision said: “The idea that politicians will decide what food products can and cannot be advertised on television is ridiculous and unworkable. In the internet age, petty political bans simply will not work. There is a plethora of information available about the nutritional value of different foodstuffs and the decision on what to buy and eat should be made by responsible parents not by interfering politicians.” ENDS
