FULL SCALE PRIVATISATION IS ONLY HOPE FOR POST OFFICE NETWORK 19 March 2008 Responding to the Conservatives’ opposition day debate on post office closures, Progressive Vision, the classical liberal think tank, has said full scale privatisation is the only way to save the Post Office network. Mark Littlewood, communications director of Progressive Vision, said: “It is absurd that decisions about which post offices to open and close are being taken by politicians in Westminster. The Post Office network is losing money hand over fist and the taxpayer should not be expected to bail out failing branches. “If Victoria Wood is so desperate to keep local post offices open, she should dig into her own deep pockets and subsidise them herself - rather than expecting others to do so while she contemplates chaining herself to some railings. “The only hope for maintaining the Post Office network is full scale privatisation. That would encourage innovation and development which is, as ever, lacking in a state-run company losing millions of pounds every day.” ENDS
