YOUNG TROUBLEMAKERS PLAN IS ATTACK ON RESPONSIBLE PARENTING 18 March 2008 Responding to the government’s announcement of a £218m extension to the Family Interventions Project, Progressive Vision, the classical liberal think tank, has said the proposals represent an attack on responsible parenting. Mark Littlewood, communications director of Progressive Vision, said: “Forcing children to sign government-issued contracts will not stop yobbish behaviour. A squad of assertive and persistent key workers will be counter-productive. What we need is a culture of assertive and persistent parenting. “The root cause of much anti-social behaviour is the dependency culture that this government has encouraged. Mothers and fathers – not social workers - need to be held accountable for the behaviour and upbringing of children. This plan will only lead to parents taking less responsibility for wayward kids. It is a £218m attack on responsible parenting.” ENDS
