SWEARING AN OATH TO THE QUEEN WON’T IMPRESS “KEVIN THE TEENAGER”

Responding to Lord Goldsmith’s proposal to encourage school-leavers to swear an oath of allegiance to the Queen, Progressive Vision, the classical liberal think-tank has said that the plans are patronising, unworkable and counter-productive.
Mark Littlewood, Communications Director of Progressive Vision, said:
“ ‘Kevin the teenager’ will not feel he has become a full citizen just because he is obliged to swear an oath of allegiance to the Queen in some idiotic ceremony dreamt up by New Labour. Lord Goldsmith’s proposals are patronising, unworkable and counter-productive. This is a ludicrous plan from a politician who must have too much time on his hands. ”
