MEDIA RELEASE: NEW WAITING TIMES STATISTICS DEMONSTRATE FAILURE OF THE NHS 4 March 2008 New statistics which show that average NHS waiting times have increased reinforces the argument for a radical change, Progressive Vision, the classical liberal think-tank, has said. Shane Frith, Director of Progressive Vision, said: “The NHS is highly inefficient and wasteful and so these statistics are wholly unsurprising. The only way to truly improve standards and reduce waiting times is to give real choice and decision making powers to patients. In Singapore, the health savings account model has done exactly this, with lower costs and better health outcomes than in Britain. Throwing yet more money at the NHS - as Labour has done and the Conservatives propose - will not raise standards or reduce queues.”
