MEDIA RELEASE: LICENSING REVIEW SHOWS CASE FOR MORE DRINKING FREEDOM 4 March 2008 Responding to the government’s review of 24-hour alcohol licensing laws, Progressive Vision, the classical liberal think-tank has said that the time has come for a greater extension of freedom to drink alcohol. Mark Littlewood, Communications Director of Progressive Vision, said: “This review shows that increasing personal freedom does not lead to disastrous public consequences. Following the success of longer opening hours, it is vital that the government resists demands for social engineering - such as preventing the sale of cheap alcohol. People should be able to drink what they want, when they want. The vast majority of adults drink responsibly. Those who don’t should foot the bill for their actions. But the reckless behaviour of a few is not a reason to limit the freedom of the many.”
