MEDIA RELEASE: RISE IN MRSA INFECTIONS PROVES FAILURE OF NHS 24 April 2008 Commenting on today’s statistics from the Health Protection Agency, showing a rise in MRSA infections, Progressive Vision, the classical liberal think tank, has said this provides proof that the centralised NHS is a failure. Shane Frith, director of Progressive Vision, said: “Britain has an appalling record for MRSA infections. It is no coincidence it is also one of the world’s most centralised health systems. Directives from Whitehall to “deep clean” hospitals are doomed to failure. The only practical means of reducing infections is to give real freedom to medical professionals and genuine choice to patients. “It is a nonsense to imagine that the NHS is the envy of the world. We should learn from countries such as Singapore and replace the NHS with a system of Health Savings Accounts. This would provide real choice to patients, clinical freedom to health professionals and minimal MRSA rates.” ENDS |
