MEDIA RELEASE: GOVERNMENT TO BLAME FOR LONG WORKING HOURS 19 February 2008 Responding to the Chartered Management Institute’s survey that senior managers work more than their contracted hours, Progressive Vision, the classical liberal think tank, has said that the government’s increasing tax burden is to blame for the extra hours that employees have to put in. Shane Frith, Director of Progressive Vision, said: “It’s unsurprising that senior managers work such long hours given the insanely high tax burden they face. That is not their fault or the fault of their employers. It’s the fault of the government. “A successful working relationship requires goodwill on both sides. Putting in the extra mile for your company needs to be seen in the context of your boss providing you with paternity, maternity, sickness and compassionate leave. But given the government wants to help itself to an ever higher proportion of workers’ wages, it is hardly surprising that our top professionals need to work morning, noon and night to meet their needs.” ENDS |
