PRIVATISING ROYAL MAIL IS ONLY HOPE FOR POST OFFICE NETWORK 19th February 2008 Responding to the reports of possible Post Office closures in London, Progressive Vision, the classical liberal think tank, has said that selling off the Royal Mail group is the only hope of preserving the post office network. Mark Littlewood, Communications Director of Progressive Vision, said: “It’s hardly surprising that the Post Office is losing money hand over fist. Most nationalised industries do. Moving the entire Royal Mail group into the private sector is the only way of encouraging the innovation and modernisation that is so desperately needed. “The absurd ritual every year as the Royal Mail announces more closures should end. More competition would provide a multitude of different options for customers. If we want to save the Post Office network, we must sell it off.” ENDS |
