MEDIA RELEASE: PARTY FUNDING ROW IS NO EXCUSE TO RAID TAXPAYER

Responding to calls for increased state funding of political parties, Progressive Vision, the classical liberal think tank, has said that recent funding scandals should not be used to justify a further raid on taxpayers by politicians.
Shane Frith, Director of Progressive Vision, said:
“Politicians’ incapability to follow existing party funding rules is not an excuse to increase state funding. The taxpayer already contributes millions of pounds to political parties for their own electoral use. Having to raise money in the real world provides an important link to civil society. Fleecing the taxpayer should not be an alternative to politicians acting with candor and competence.
