MEDIA RELEASE: TWO CHEERS FOR LIBERAL DEMOCRAT HEALTH PLANS 22 January 2008 Commenting on Nick Clegg’s proposals for health care reform, Progressive Vision, the classical liberal think tank, has said the LibDems need to go further in promoting localism. Shane Frith, Director of Progressive Vision, said: “The Liberal Democrats deserve two cheers for wanting to decentralise the NHS - but their plans don’t go far enough. Local health authorities need powers that go beyond simply setting a tax rate. They should also have the discretion to impose charges or to introduce personalised health savings accounts. True localism would mean a wide range of innovative approaches being tried in different areas - not just different levels of tax and spending.” ENDS |
