MEDIA RELEASE: NEW CLASSICAL LIBERAL THINK TANK LAUNCHED 17 October 2007 Former Conservative activist and ex-Liberal Democrat spin doctor launch Progressive Vision A new classical liberal, campaigning think tank is launched this week as Shane Frith, (who has worked for the Centre for Policy Studies, Reform and Open Europe) and Mark Littlewood (former Head of Media for the Liberal Democrats from December 2004 – May 2007). The new group say they are “concerned that politicians of all parties appear addicted to centralised, state-initiated, authoritarian public sector approaches to the overwhelming majority of our country’s ills. We assert that a dramatic extension of personal freedom would not only lead to more fulfilling lives for individual men and women, but also to a more peaceful, tolerant and wealthier society.” Progressive Vision hopes to influence both the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives to move in a more liberal direction – both in terms of personal freedom and support for the free market. The group is also determined to put their case through the national media. Progressive Vision’s website (www.progressive-vision.org) contains arguments for the introduction of individual health savings accounts, the privatisation of the post office, liberalising gambling laws and lowering the overall tax burden. Shane Frith, Progressive Vision’s Director, said; “All three main parties seem too happy to coalesce around a statist, centralised consensus. We believe genuine classical liberal values are under-represented in the national debate. We intend to put that right.”
Mark Littlewood, Progressive Vision’s Communications Director, said; “The only way to win the case for freedom is to make that argument aggressively and passionately. We want to encourage the creation of a genuine alternative to the authoritarian, interventionist instincts of this government.”
